Middle School

Welcome to the 2016-17 version of our website. We hope these pages will prove helpful and interesting!
It has been my honor and happiness to watch our secondary section continue to develop last year as 2015-16 school year unfolded. I’m David Miller, the Secondary Principal and Director for Yangon Academy. We had our second graduating class of seniors last year, and this years’ group are now getting their paperwork and SATs ready for university admissions decisions for 2015-16. It’s an exciting time.

We continue to grow in size, at the high school level especially. This growth has, in turn, contributed to making the range and depth of our programs even more inviting for our students. A few examples include: Our Myanmar Language and Culture program, rather unique to international schools in Myanmar, continues to become stronger and more compelling each year. Our sports program is continuing to expand. The soccer/football team played some 10 matches this last year with the Under 19 team finishing 2nd in our MISAC tournament. The basketball team boasts some 45 students playing actively at the secondary level. The Student Council has organized several major events for the student body, to include several dances and a Spirit Week. The Drama Club produced a first-ever musical, Grease, in March to wide acclaim. The Robotics program is growing at a rapid rate at five levels, with the most sophisticated Level 5 group programming various models with the Mind storms EV kits. With guitar, keyboard, and violin opportunities the music program now offers more for individual students. Chorus will also blend with Drama as the musical production goes into high gear.

In closing, it’s extremely important to note that our secondary teachers are among the very best in Yangon. All have current certification in their specialty fields, and have an average of 10 years direct experience in either the Advanced Placement program (AP) and/or the International Baccalaureate diploma program (IB).

We all know that we are blessed with very polite, hard-working students. The teachers tell me that these students are the best they have ever worked with in their careers. They make teaching a real pleasure and a concrete reason to join us here at Yangon Academy.

My door is always open should you like to come in for a chat over a cup of coffee or tea. I’m at your service. The best.
