Elementary School Curriculum

The Yangon Academy Elementary School includes Kindergarten to grade five. Applicants must be the specified age for each grade by 1 September. The majority of our elementary students first successfully attended our Early Childhood Center program. From its beginning 13 years ago the school’s purpose has been to provide the very best English language education possible using an U.S.-based curriculum at a lower tuition than the few international schools of that time period.

Yangon Academy’s curriculum is based on some of the most commonly used programs in the United States and in many International Schools throughout the world. Our curriculum supports the school’s Vision and Mission statements as well as the Student Learning Outcomes (SLO’s). Our elementary classroom experiences support the development of students to become Effective Communicators, Creative and Critical Thinkers, Healthy Individuals, Collaborative Team Players, Responsible Global Citizens and Lovers of Learning which are our Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs). In addition to the core subjects of language arts, math, science, and social studies our students are taught by specialist teachers for art, computer, music, Myanmar Studies, and physical education. YA has a varied program of After School Activities.

Students participate in a comprehensive, balanced literacy program which provides and develops the skills of reading writing, thinking, speaking and listening for all students. It includes phonics in the early childhood years. YA follows the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts, USA.
Yangon Academy’s math program follows the Common Core State Standards for Math, USA.
Yangon Academy’s science program follows the Next Generation Science Standards, USA.
Yangon Academy’s social studies program follows the Project American Education Reaches Out (AERO) Standards and Benchmarks. The Elementary School curriculum prepares students to make the transition into Middle School and eventually into High School.
