On May 25-26, Yangon Academy hosted, for the first time, the student-led Model United Nations Conference. This extra-curricular activity places students in role-playing leadership positions as “delegates” to the United Nations. While certainly the event was great fun for all students, it also provided important lessons in leadership and in service to others.
Tasked with solving real-world problems involving global security, theenvironment, human rights, and international development, students are challenged to collaborate in committee to develop enduring solutions to complex problems.
With five international schools visiting our secondary school campus and over 200 student leaders participating in the 2-day event, the 4th annual Middle Years Yangon Model UN Conference was a tremendous success. Moreover, by their public speaking and creative and critical thinking skills our middle school students represented the school and their parents in exemplary fashion.
Yangon Academy was honored to host such a prestigious event, and we look forward to even more students participating in Model UN next year!
